Mendocino Spring Ranch Wedding

Bride and Groom leaving their wedding ceremony at Spring Ranch, in Mendocino, CASarah and Ritz asked my good friend Deb Huber to photograph their wedding, which is how I ended up at the stately Spring Ranch in Mendocino as a second photographer. Everything clicked into place for this shot – I remember running through the grass, envisioning something like this, as they walked up the aisle. Lamberton Conservatory Wedding, Rochester, NY

Mom and dad look on at their daughter's Lamberton Conservatory Wedding in Rochester, NY
This is from a few years ago – I had the chance to photograph a pair of weddings in New York a week apart from one another, jumped at the opportunity, and sandwiched a visit to Montreal in between. This is dad, holding mom, watching the wedding ceremony. The bride and groom wanted to be married somewhere lush – the Lamberton Conservatory was the perfect venue.

St John Armenian Church Wedding

A groom embracing a relative after his St John Armenian Church wedding.Aras married Ellen at St. John Armenian Apostolic Church at San Francisco, and this is one of many hugs that followed. I don’t see this type of brotherhood every day, or even every other Saturday during wedding season. When I do, I’m overjoyed to think of my own brothers and the great male friends I have, and I’m glad to know that this strength of friendship exists in the world. It was my first time shooting a St John Armenian Church Wedding; I was elated to experience the dramatic lighting and interesting neighborhood of another iconic San Francisco church. After I took this photo, we made our way up to Twin Peaks and then to the Embarcadero for some portraits, before a magnificent reception at the Omni Hotel, in the heart of San Francisco’s Financial District.

San Francisco City Hall Wedding

A groom with a horse mask picking up his bride at San Francisco City Hall.
An old friend of mine asked me to photograph her wedding at San Francisco City Hall. We did some traditional portraits before the ceremony, some family photos after, and then, just as I was about to leave, the horse mask appeared.

Old Mill Park Wedding

Bride and groom walking together after their wedding ceremony at Mill Valley's Old Mill Park.
My favourite photo from a wedding a month ago, which I had the privilege of photographing as second shooter for the talented Molly Watson. Mill Valley’s Old Mill Park is positively blanketed with trees and ivies, which render the sunlight under the redwood canopy quite dark and very directional. The lack of light can be a little frustrating for photographers, but it brings out the detail in the bride’s elegant layered gown in this photo. The magenta tulle and matching shoes were striking against this backdrop and at the lush Outdoor Art Club, which hosted the reception.

Point Reyes Seashore Lodge Wedding, Olema, CA

Lydia and Wesley were married at the Point Reyes Seashore Lodge in Olema, CA.

Lydia and Wesley were married in west Marin County, near the Pacific Coast. Their match was tangible; this is one of many points during their wedding ceremony when they appeared to find themselves sharing the same feeling at the same time. I love shooting in harsh sun – it can build pockets of beautiful bouncing light.

Sugar Bowl Resort Wedding, Tahoe, CA

Sugar Bowl Wedding Photographer

Thanks for visiting! I thought this might be a nice place to start my new wedding blog, Marry Unique. This photograph was taken at Roxy and Sean’s Tahoe wedding this fall, and is my favourite recent confluence of sudden splendid light and layers of moment. I’ve seen clouds part ways to sunshine on a wedding day before, but never with such perfect timing. We spend a lot of time hoping that the location and the light will come together just so, and on this day, it did.
