My name is Morgan Bellinger, and I am a wedding photographer. I live in Oakland, CA with my wife, Jen, and our dreams of children and puppies. I take photographs for www.movephotography.com and www.polaresqueboudoir.com.
I’ve “blogged” a tremendous number of weddings, seen online inspiration boards take inspiration from other online inspiration boards, and received e-mails from wedding blogs looking to feature my work. I realized this year that there was something fundamentally strange about a “wedding industry” in the first place, and especially a “wedding industry” that seems to feed on blog posts with hundreds of detail photos, a few portraits, and not much else. The last straw was when one blog asked me to submit photos that specifically excluded people who weren’t in the bridal party.
This is not to say that this industry is doing something wrong. This is not to discredit everyone who has invested hours and hours into finding inspiration for and creating magnificent, one-of-a-kind details that will complete a beautiful wedding day. I’ve been to hundreds of weddings and events, and I know that those details and event designers and Pinterest and sometimes even repurposed mason jars can help craft something unforgettable. I’m just thinking that it might be time for us photographers to reevaluate our focus.
There will be a person you love at your wedding.
There may even be people you love at your wedding.
This is dedicated to them.
One photo at a time.
