Champagne, San Francisco Wedding

Christin and Reid got married at the Swedenborgian Church of San Francisco in the afternoon and enjoyed a reception at The Chapel, in The Mission, in the evening after their San Francisco wedding.

A bride and groom enjoy a glass of champagne on a rooftop in San Francisco's iconic North Beach neighborhood after their San Francisco wedding.

In between, we snuck back to their place in North Beach to celebrate their San Francisco wedding on the roof with a glass of champagne.

They live directly across the street from a former wedding client of mine – it’s such a small world in San Francisco!

We were connected by my friend Mike Byrne – an excellent photographer and first assistant. I’m shooting his wedding later this summer.

See more from this rooftop, more from the Swedenborgian, more from The Chapel, and more lovely people drinking all sorts of things, including champagne, at this link: http://www.movephotography.com/Wedding-Selections/Wedding-At-The-Chapel-San-Franci/

Ring Bearers, Cake and a B Cellars Wedding Reception

A photograph of a bride feeding wedding cake to a young ringbearer in a suit.

Here’s one more from the same wedding; Chelsea wanted to make sure this adorable ring bearer tried the cake after a day of running around Domaine Chandon and B Cellars. This is in the wine cave at their B Cellars wedding reception.

Mariachi Love at Sequoyah Country Club Wedding

Mariachi band members embrace during a wedding ceremony at Sequoyah Country Club in Oakland, CA.

My good friends Jamie and Ernesto had a beautiful ceremony at Sequoyah Country Club, nestled in the hills overlooking Oakland. Seems like the ceremony was touching for the mariachi band too.

San Francisco City Hall Wedding Portraits

A wedding portrait taken at SF City Hall.

San Francisco City Hall is a beautiful place to take portraits – the building is replete with terrific settings and backgrounds. I was there with Elisa and Fabio, who picked up their marriage license on this day before their wedding next week and asked me to meet them there for some photos of that process in addition to traditional engagement portraits. We lucked out and found the main floor empty of tourists, as the building was in the process of being converted to an event space for the evening. I love coming back and shooting here; it gives me a chance to search for new portrait locations. I’m looking forward to photographing Elisa and Fabio’s North Beach wedding next week.

Tilden Botanical Garden Wedding

A bride and groom prepare for portraits in a redwood grove in Berkeley, CA

The inimitable Cindi de Channes asked me to capture a wedding with her last summer at the redwood grove in the Tilden Regional Park Botanic Garden. Redwood groves are beautiful places to get married – they can be dark, but when the sunlight shines between the trees, it really sings. This is a moment before the portraits, in a place I thought might collect some nice light after the ceremony. I was fortunate that the detail of the back of the bride’s dress matched the light and the groom’s elegance of body language so perfectly.

Leonard Lake Reserve Wedding

A wedding guest climbs out of a lake before the wedding ceremony at the Leonard Lake Reserve in Mendocino County, CAI got to shoot a few weddings last year for Fun and Funky Wedding Photography, including Jo and Fred’s Leonard Lake Reserve wedding. You can see more photos here: http://funandfunkyweddingthings.com/blog/2013/12/6/fred-and-jo-leonard-lake-reserve-wedding-cali but this is my favourite photo from the day. A few of the guests cooled off in the lake, which is one of the abundant reasons to get married at Leonard Lake Reserve, and one of them climbed out, and I was there. You might say this doesn’t look much like a wedding photo, and you’d be right, but the bride and groom wanted a summer camp feel for their wedding day, and I think this fits well.

Old Mill Park Wedding

Bride and groom walking together after their wedding ceremony at Mill Valley's Old Mill Park.
My favourite photo from a wedding a month ago, which I had the privilege of photographing as second shooter for the talented Molly Watson. Mill Valley’s Old Mill Park is positively blanketed with trees and ivies, which render the sunlight under the redwood canopy quite dark and very directional. The lack of light can be a little frustrating for photographers, but it brings out the detail in the bride’s elegant layered gown in this photo. The magenta tulle and matching shoes were striking against this backdrop and at the lush Outdoor Art Club, which hosted the reception.

Point Reyes Seashore Lodge Wedding, Olema, CA

Lydia and Wesley were married at the Point Reyes Seashore Lodge in Olema, CA.

Lydia and Wesley were married in west Marin County, near the Pacific Coast. Their match was tangible; this is one of many points during their wedding ceremony when they appeared to find themselves sharing the same feeling at the same time. I love shooting in harsh sun – it can build pockets of beautiful bouncing light.
