Mendocino Wedding, New Toy, Tilt Shift
I don’t do this often, as I like to think that after 6 years as a wedding photographer, I’ve honed down my camera kit to the essentials. But I just picked up a 90mm tilt shift lens and have begun bringing it along to weddings. It lets me employ selective focus like what I’ve done above, which is impossible with a normal lens. Tilt shift lenses are tricky to use but wonderful and unique, especially for candids. They allow me greater control over where the viewer’s eye goes. I’ll be posting more photos taken with this lens in the future. This particular dress is hanging from a staircase in a farmhouse in Mendocino; that’s the bride’s brother coming down the stairs.
Leonard Lake Reserve Wedding
I got to shoot a few weddings last year for Fun and Funky Wedding Photography, including Jo and Fred’s Leonard Lake Reserve wedding. A few of the guests cooled off in the lake, which is one of the abundant reasons to get married at Leonard Lake Reserve, and one of them climbed out, and I was there. You might say this doesn’t look much like a wedding photo, and you’d be right, but the bride and groom wanted a summer camp feel for their wedding day, and I think this fits well.
Mendocino Spring Ranch Wedding
Sarah and Ritz asked my good friend Deb Huber to photograph their wedding, which is how I ended up at the stately Spring Ranch in Mendocino as a second photographer. Everything clicked into place for this shot – I remember running through the grass, envisioning something like this, as they walked up the aisle.
